Rudolf "Ruedi" Aeschbacher (born September 15, 1941 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss politician ( EPP ).

Life

Aeschbacher is the son of a railroad worker. As such, he grew up in Rorschach , Buchs SG , Brugg and Zurich . He studied law and received his doctorate in 1969.

In 1977 he was in the council elected by Zurich. In 1978 he was elected to the city ​​council of Zurich, only the second member of the Evangelical People's Party after Ulrich Ribi (city council 1928–33). As a city councilor, he made a name for himself primarily as a transport politician. He was re-elected three times as a city councilor and was eliminated in the fourth election as redundant. From the 1999 elections until his resignation in 2010, Ruedi Aeschbach was a member of the National Council . He was a member of the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications and the Commission for Legal Issues of the National Council. Maja Ingold took over his seat on the National Council . Aeschbacher was President of the EPP from 2000 to 2008.
