Jacques Bourgeois (born March 14, 1958 in Pompaples ( VD )) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ). He has been a member of the National Council since 2007 .

Life and political office

After basic training in agriculture and a commercial and administrative diploma , Bourgeois began studying agricultural economics at a technical college , which he successfully completed in 1985. He then worked for the Association of Swiss Vegetable Producers until 1998 , seven years of which as director.

Since 2002 and until the end of March 2020, Bourgeois has been director of the Swiss Farmers' Association , for which he had already worked four years previously as deputy director and head of the Department of Crop Production and Environment.

In 2001, Bourgeois took up his first public office as a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Friborg . In the 2007 parliamentary elections , he made it to the National Council. As part of his parliamentary activities, he is Vice-President of the Commission for Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy (UREK) of the National Council.

Political profile

Bourgeois generally supports economic and social liberalization , but also observes these developments critically. He tends to reject calls for a further expansion of the welfare state , for further opening up of foreign policy or concerns about environmental protection - although he never adopts radical positions, but always positions himself with a certain amount of room for maneuver. Bourgeois is a diplomatic parliamentarian who, however, does not shy away from expressing a firm opinion on individual issues that sometimes contradicts the line of his party.

Others

In addition to his activities as an association director and parliamentarian, Bourgeois is involved in cycling. He is honorary president of the Freiburg Cyclists' Association and presided over the Tour de Romandie 2007. Bourgeois is married and has two children. Bourgeois is also a member of the Rotary Club Freiburg.
