Jean-François Steiert

Jean-François Steiert (born February 7, 1961 in Bern ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ) in the canton of Friborg .

Jean-François Steiert attended the Maria Ward primary school in Freiburg from 1967 to 1972 and then moved to the Kollegium St. Michael high school in the same city from 1972 to 1978 with the Matura type C degree . He then attended the University of Freiburg from 1978 to 1989 and majored in Swiss history. In the minor subjects he dealt with contemporary history and communication studies.

Since 2002, Steiert has been the delegate for intercantonal affairs at the Vaudois Education Directorate. He became known in the Swiss public through his professional activity at the SP Switzerland: 1998–2000 as Secretary General of the SP Switzerland and the SP parliamentary group of the Federal Assembly and previously 1993–1998 as Central Secretary for Press and Information of the SP Switzerland.

After Liliane Chappuis' death in June 2007, Steiert succeeded her in the National Council. From January 2002 to December 2007 he was a member of the Freiburg Grand Council . Before that he was involved in the Freiburg parliament.

In November 2016, Jean-François Steiert was elected to the Council of State, the government of the canton of Friborg, in the second ballot . He then resigned from the National Council in early 2017.
