Trivia

The trigger for Federal Councilor Hans-Rudolf Merz's now famous laughing fit during a National Council meeting was a request from Grin regarding the customs tariff for seasoned meat. It was not the content of the financial department's response, which was written in pronounced official German, that was a reason to laugh, but rather the fact that Merz himself sometimes no longer understood what he was reading out in his official response.
