Jacques Neirynck

Jacques Neirynck (born August 17, 1931 in Uccle / Ukkel ; resident in Ecublens ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ), electrical engineer , consumer advocate and author of books on the subject of technical progress.

Life

Neirynck studied electrical engineering and received his diploma in 1954; then (1954 to 1957) he worked in the Belgian coal mining industry. From 1957 to 1963 he held a professorship for electrical engineering at the University of Kinshasa in Zaire and, in parallel, received his doctorate (1958) at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. From 1963 to 1972 he worked in the Philips research laboratory in Brussels, first as head of the applied sciences group, then as deputy director.

In addition to his scientific work, Neirynck has been committed to consumer protection across Europe since 1963. In 1972 Neirynck received a professorship at the Chair for Circuits and Systems at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne , and in 1982 he became a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers in New York.

In 1999 he was elected to the Swiss National Council in the Swiss parliamentary elections. In the subsequent National Council elections in 2003 , he lost his seat, but was able to win it back in the 2007 elections and successfully defend it in 2011 . In 2015, however, he failed to be re-elected. Neirynck was a member of the Foreign Policy Commission (APK), the Commission for Science, Education and Culture (WBK) and the editorial commission (RedK).

Neirynck became known throughout Switzerland as one of the five leading actors in the documentary “ Mais im Bundeshuus” . He lives in Ecublens, is married and has five children. In addition to Swiss citizenship, he also has Belgian and French citizenship.
