Valentine Python (born June 18, 1975 in Neuchâtel ) is a Swiss climatologist and politician .

Life

Valentine Python was born on June 18, 1975 in Neuchâtel . She studied at the University of Neuchâtel and graduated in 2006 with a master's degree in human sciences (history and geography). In 2010 she completed her doctorate at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne under the direction of Martine Rebetez . She is an expert in the fields of climatology and environmental science. Her professional career included positions as a research assistant, trainer for sustainable development, lecturer, consultant and teacher.

Political career

Valentine Python only joined the Green Party in 2018 and was directly elected to the La Tour-de-Peilz local council. At the 2019 General Assembly, she was elected President of the Green Riviera and Pays d'Enhaut Group. After her successful, albeit unexpected, election to the National Council in 2019, she stepped down from the presidency, which she held for only a few months.

In the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2019 , she ran for the National Council in 13th place on the green list. On October 20, 2019, she was the first candidate to succeed, which was attributed to her job as a climate expert. After the successful runoff election of Adèle Thorens Goumaz on November 10, 2019, she slipped into the Council of States on their mandate. She was sworn in as a national councilor on December 2, 2019.
