Daniel Jositsch (born March 25, 1965 in Zurich ; legal resident in Geroldswil and Stäfa ) is a Swiss legal scholar and politician ( SP ).

Jositsch grew up in Zurich and in the Limmat Valley . At the district school Stadelhofen he graduated in 1984 Matura Type B . From 1985 to 1990 he studied law at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and graduated with a licentiate . He is a member of the student union AV Bodania.

From 1991 to 1995 he was managing director of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Colombia . After being admitted to the Colombian bar in 1992, he also worked as an independent lawyer in Bogotá . At the same time he did his doctorate in 1993 at the University of St. Gallen.

Back in Zurich, he initially (1995/96) worked as a legal assistant at the insurance broker Kessler & Co., then (1996–98) as an intern at the Naegeli & Streichenberg law firm. In 1998 he was admitted to the Zurich bar and worked as a lawyer for the same law firm until 2000 . From 2000 to 2004 he was an independent lawyer, he litigated and was mainly active in the field of criminal law. At the same time he was working on his habilitation thesis .

In 2004 he completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich . In the same year he was appointed associate professor for criminal law , criminal procedure law and criminal law auxiliary sciences at the University of Zurich . In 2012 he was promoted to full professor by the University Council of the University of Zurich .

politics

Jositsch belonged to the Green Party at a young age and then switched to the SP. From 2005 to 2009 Jositsch was President of the Social Democratic Party in the Meilen district . In 2006 he was elected President of the Zurich Section of the New European Movement Switzerland (NEBS), which he chaired until 2008. In spring 2007 he was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council, from which he resigned the following autumn, as he had won a mandate as National Council in the national parliamentary elections . In the same year, a 12-point plan published by him together with Chantal Galladé for solving youth violence and school problems attracted media attention. In 2017, he and other representatives of the right wing presented a social liberal platform within the SP. In the replacement election to the Zurich government council on November 29, 2009, he was defeated by Ernst Stocker , who achieved an absolute majority in the first ballot. In the parliamentary elections on October 23, 2011 , he was confirmed as National Councilor.

On November 9, 2011, Jositsch was elected President of KV Switzerland at the delegates' meeting .

On October 18, 2015, Jositsch was elected to the Council of States in the first ballot as the representative of the Canton of Zurich . He was confirmed in this office in the elections on October 20, 2019, also in the first ballot.

Private

Daniel Jositsch is divorced and has one son. He is of Jewish origin and was in a relationship with the SP National Councilor Chantal Galladé for several years . He is a Swiss-Colombian dual citizen . In the Swiss Army he holds the rank of lieutenant colonel .
