Anton K. Schnyder

Anton K. Schnyder (* 1952 , legal resident in Thalwil ) is professor of private law at the University of Zurich .

Life

Schnyder began his academic career at the University of Zurich, where he completed his doctorate in law and worked as a research assistant from 1973 to 1981 . 1982 followed a Master of Laws at the University of California, Berkeley . He then was a lecturer at the University of Zurich from 1983 to 1984 and made a research stay at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg from 1984 to 1987 . During this time he completed his habilitation with a thesis on "Economic conflict of laws - special links and extraterritorial application of commercial law norms with special consideration of market law".

From 1987 to 1993 Schnyder worked as a legal advisor at Zurich Insurance Company . In October 1993 he was appointed full professor of private law at the University of Basel . In March 2003, he moved to the University of Zurich, where he has been a full professor of private and commercial law, international private and civil procedural law and comparative law. Since May 2008 he has also been a consultant at a Zurich law firm.

Parallel to his academic work, Schnyder was Vice-President from 1994 to 2004 and President of the Federal Appeals Commission for the supervision of private insurance from February 2004 to the end of 2006 and a member of the Board of Directors of Converium Holding AG from the end of 2001 to April 2006 .
