Ulrich Haas

Ulrich Haas (born October 29, 1964 in Sorengo , Switzerland) is a German law scholar and university professor .

Life

Haas attended the European Schools in Varese and Luxembourg. He first studied economics and computer science in the United States of America , then from 1983 law at the University of Lausanne and in Regensburg. In July 1988, Haas passed the first state examination in law at the University of Regensburg . In 1990 the doctorate to Dr. iur. with the work The Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign and International Arbitral Awards , 1992 the Second State Examination in Law. Haas was initially a research assistant at the University of Regensburg with Peter Gottwald . In July 1996 the habilitation followed with the thesis of managing director liability and creditor protection - entrepreneurial behavioral obligations of the GmbH managing director to protect third parties .

From 1996 to 1997, Haas was a substitute professor at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1997, Haas was appointed to the chair for civil law , civil procedural law and commercial law . In April 2001, Haas moved to Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz as a university professor , also due to his work as head of the joint doping commission of the DSB and NOK .

In August 2007, Haas was appointed full professor at the University of Zurich , where he will also be teaching from autumn 2007. Haas is a member of the Civil Law Teachers Association .

In April 2011, the Spanish professional cyclist Alberto Contador and the Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) nominated Ulrich Haas as judge before the International Sports Court (CAS) . This caused astonishment in cycling circles, as Haas was a member of the CAS judges panel, which on May 31, 2010 had confirmed the two-year doping ban for Alejandro Valverde .

Between January 2014 and February 2015, Haas was a member of the Cycling Independent Reform Commission , which on behalf of the Union Cycliste Internationale, the world cycling association, investigated its involvement in the doping scandal in cycling and made recommendations for the further fight against doping.
