Rolf Sethe

Rolf Sethe (born April 22, 1960 in Witten ) is a German legal scholar . He is professor for private , commercial and business law at the University of Zurich .

Life

Sethe graduated from the Aldegrever-Gymnasium in Soest in 1980 and studied law and history from 1980 to 1986 at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen . In 1986/87 he studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science and obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.). From 1987 to 1990 he completed his legal clerkship at the Tübingen Regional Court . In 1990 he passed the second state examination in law. In 1994 the doctorate followed, in 2002 the habilitation with Heinz-Dieter Assmann in Tübingen. Sethe was then a deputy professor at the Free University of Berlin and the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg . He turned down an offer at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and accepted an offer at the University of Halle-Wittenberg. There he was appointed C4 professor for civil law, European private law, commercial and economic law in 2003. In 2007 he was awarded the Ars legendi Prize for excellent university teaching.

In the 2007 summer semester he was offered a position at the University of Regensburg , which he refused. However, he accepted an offer at the University of Zurich . With effect from August 1, 2008, he was appointed Professor of Private, Commercial and Business Law. In 2010 he turned down an offer as Vice President Teaching and Dean of Graduate Studies as well as founding dean of a law faculty at Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen. In 2011 the University of Zurich awarded him the Prize for Good Teaching. In 2012 he turned down an offer at the University of Tübingen. In 2015 he received the Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching .
