Matthias Mahlmann

Matthias Mahlmann (* 1966 ) is a German law scholar and professor at the University of Zurich .

Live and act

Mahlmann studied law and philosophy at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Free University of Berlin . After his first state examination in law in 1994, Mahlmann initially worked in various law firms before completing his legal clerkship at the Berlin Superior Court in 1997, which he completed in 1999 with the second state examination. Of the Free University of Berlin, he was in the same year with the jurisprudential writing rationalism in the practical theory: standard theory and practical skills to Dr. iur. PhD. He then worked as a research assistant and assistant at the Institute for Legal Sociology and Legal Fact Research at the Free University of Berlin. In 2005 he completed his habilitation there for the subjects of public law, legal sociology and legal philosophy.

This was followed by a substitute professorship at Bielefeld University . In the spring semester of 2008, Mahlmann was appointed associate professor for legal theory, legal sociology and international public law at the University of Zurich . Since February 1, 2014 Mahlmann has been a full professor of philosophy and theory of law, legal sociology and international public law at the University of Zurich.

Mahlmann's research focuses primarily on the fundamentals of law, especially fundamental rights and constitutional theory.
