Walter Sondermann

Walter Sondermann (born February 26, 1899 - † February 27, 1973 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1952 to 1970 he was mayor of the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Ennepetal .

Life

Walter Sondermann's leg was amputated through an injury in World War I. He was a foreman at August Bilstein in Altenvoerde. He died of a serious illness the day after his 74th birthday.

From 1946 to 1949 Sondermann was mayor of the municipality of Voerde . When the town of Ennepetal was founded on April 1, 1949, which arose from the municipalities of Voerde and Milspe , he was first deputy mayor under Fritz Textor ( FPD ) from November 1949 . After the election in November 1952, Walter Sondermann took over the mayor's office and held it until 1970. Until today (as of 2020) no one was mayor in Ennepetal for a longer period of time. His successor was Ewald Rettberg (SPD). After Walter Sondermann's resignation as mayor, he was appointed honorary mayor of Ennepetal.

During Sondermann's tenure, the population of Ennepetal rose from 20,000 to 38,000.

Walter Sondermann was a member of the general assembly of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities .

Honors

Walter Sondermann was an arbitrator for more than 20 years , for which he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon on April 30, 1968 when he was presented at the Schwelm District Court . A street in a new building area on the upper Strückerberg of the Ennepetal district of Büttenberg was named after him.
