Ernst Stocker-Rusterholz (born April 20, 1955 in Wädenswil ; entitled to live there ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ). Since May 2010 he has been a member of the Government Council of the Canton of Zurich . He was initially head of the economics department before he took over the finance department in 2015. In the 2015/16 year of office he was President of the Government.

Life

Stocker completed his training as a federally certified master farmer in 1983 and later ran an agricultural business. He has now leased it to his son. He began his political career in 1975 when he joined the Swiss People's Party in Wädenswil, which he chaired between 1992 and 1998. Stocker is a member of the board of the SVP of the Canton of Zurich .

From 1987 Ernst Stocker was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council . There he was a member of the Transport Commission from 1987 to 1991, from 1991 to 1998 a member of the business audit commission and member of PUK I, from 1999 to 2007 a member of the management of the Cantonal Council and since 2007 a member of the Commission for State and Municipalities and President of the Special Commission on Integration. In 2003/2004 he was President of the Cantonal Council.

At the community level, Ernst Stocker was councilor of Wädenswil from 1998 . There he was Head of the Health and Safety Department from 1998 to 2002 and Head of the Construction and Planning Department from 2002 to 2006. In 2006 he became the mayor elected by Wädenswil.

On September 25, 2009, Ernst Stocker was nominated by the delegates of the SVP of the Canton of Zurich as a candidate for the government council for the replacement elections on November 29, 2009, in which he was finally elected to succeed Rita Fuhrer . On May 1, 2010, he took up his post as Zurich government councilor and head of the Department of Economics. He has been a member of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank since the same day .

In the general election on April 3, 2011, Ernst Stocker was confirmed in his office as a member of the government. He achieved the second best result of the previous government councilors and the third best of all candidates. In the general election on April 12, 2015, Ernst Stocker was re-confirmed in his office and moved to the finance department. He achieved the third best result of all the candidates.

Ernst Stocker ran again for the government council election in spring 2019. He was nominated together with Natalie Rickli in the delegates' assembly of SVP Canton Zurich . He was re-elected by the people for another four years. He achieved the third best result of all the candidates.

Private

Ernst Stocker is married, has two children and lives in the Wädenswiler Berg district of Wädenswil. He has the military rank of adjutant non-commissioned officer .
