The Wädenswiler Berg or Wädenswilerberg is a rural district of the city of Wädenswil in the canton of Zurich .

geography

Wädenswiler Berg

The extensive scattered settlement lies on a hilly plateau above the city ( district Wädenswil ) and Lake Zurich . Due to clearing in the Middle Ages and early modern times, only a few remains of the once extensive forest area are left. The Aabach and the Reidbach, both several kilometers long, have their source in the Wädenswiler Berg.

The largest hamlets are Herrlisberg, Feld, Burstel, Langrüti, Oedischwänd, Himmeri, Beichlen, Waggital, Neuguet and Stocken . The A3 motorway crosses here with the Hirzelpassstrasse . In Wädenswiler Berg, in addition to the large commercial and shopping area Hinter-Rüti at the entrance to Wädenswil, there are several shops and restaurants, the Herrlisberg motorway service station , two school buildings, a chapel , the soccer field of FC Wädenswil in the Beichlen, a tennis center in Neubüel and the Bachgadeweiher Bathing place.

population

In 2009 there were 789 inhabitants in Wädenswiler Berg.

The Wädenswiler Berg has two district associations, which together take care of the interests of the population of the Wädenswiler Berg:

  • District association Langrüti (Vorderberg area), President Martin Kälin
  • Quartierverein Stocken (Hinterberg area), President Fredy Haab

Attractions

The Oedischwänd farm in Wädenswiler Berg

The numerous farms are in part significant witnesses to the Zurich half-timbered style . The Furthof, a log house from 1532, is one of the oldest houses in Wädenswil and is not far from the largest hamlet of Herrlisberg . The Oedischwänd farm with its splendid baroque half-timbered house from 1654 is also close by.

The stately hamlet of Burstel, whose main building dates from 1690, is located on the Hirzelpassstrasse . The trotters and outbuildings were built during the 18th and 19th centuries. The Strasshus is a stately baroque house from 1709.

In 1956, the Catholic Chapel of St. Anna was built according to plans by Ferdinand Pfammatter and Walter Rieger , which is now very popular, especially for weddings. The colored glass window with the motif of Christ in the winepress, which is seldom seen in Switzerland, comes from Father Karl Stadler from Engelberg Monastery .
