Martin Thomas Neukom (born July 7, 1986 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss politician ( GPS ). He has been a member of the government of the Canton of Zurich since May 6, 2019 and heads the building department.

biography

Martin Neukom grew up in the Veltheim district of Winterthur . In 2006 he completed his apprenticeship as a designer (machine draftsman ). In 2009 he completed his studies in mechatronics at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ( ZHAW ). From 2009 to 2011 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Computational Physics (ICP) at the ZHAW. In 2016 he did his master's degree in solar energy systems at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau. From 2011 to 2019 he worked as an engineer and product manager at Fluxim AG. In December 2019, the Mathematical-Natural-Scientific-Technical Faculty of the University of Augsburg awarded him the degree of Dr. rer. nat. on the basis of his dissertation "Comprehensive Characterization and Modeling of Operation Mechanisms in Third Generation Solar Cells".

politics

Martin Neukom has been a member of the Greens since 2005. From 2008 to 2012 he was President of Young Green Switzerland . From 2014 to 2019 he was a member of the Cantonal Council (Legislative) of the Canton of Zurich and the Commission for Planning and Construction. From 2017 to 2019 he was a member of the Board of Directors for Pedestrian Traffic in Switzerland and a member of the management of the Green Canton of Zurich.

On March 24, 2019, he was elected to the government council (executive) by the Zurich electorate, at the age of 32 as the second youngest member to date after Alfred Escher .

Martin Neukom's political interests are climate protection , biodiversity , the development of sustainable energy technology and the improvement of transport. He is committed to the Paris climate target of reducing CO 2 emissions to zero by 2050 and is first aiming to renovate the building stock.
