Silvia Steiner

Silvia Steiner (born March 14, 1958 ; resident in Lauerz ) is a Swiss public prosecutor and politician of the CVP . It is incumbent Councilor of the Canton of Zurich and Head of the Education Department, as well as current President of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education .

Life

Steiner attended the Oerlikon Cantonal School , which she graduated with a type B Matura in 1978 . After studying law at the University of Zurich , which Steiner graduated with a licentiate in 1984 , she first worked as an auditor and court clerk, later as a district attorney. In 1995 she joined the police force, from 1997 to 1998 she completed the police officer course at the Swiss Police Institute. In 2002, she began part-her dissertation at the University of Lausanne on Domestic Violence and closed it in 2004 with the promotion from.

From 1999 to 2002 she was the chief of the criminal police of the Zurich city police . She then headed the Zug criminal police until she became a public prosecutor in the canton of Zurich in 2005. In this function, she mainly campaigned against human trafficking and pimping.

Steiner was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council from 2007 to 2015 , where she was a member of the Legislative Commission for Economy and Taxes (WAK). As part of her parliamentary work, she continued to deal with legal issues and politicized, among other things, on the subject of child protection.

Silvia Steiner was nominated as a candidate for the government council elections in 2015 by the Zurich cantonal section of the CVP . During the election campaign, Steiner was criticized in an anonymous brochure for her positions on euthanasia . Steiner then filed a complaint against unknown persons because of what they considered defamatory representation. She was elected on April 12, 2015, and at the constituent meeting of the government council on May 18, 2015, Steiner was assigned the education department.
