The Israelitische Cultusgemeinde Zurich (ICZ) is a Jewish community in the form of a unified community in Zurich and with almost 2500 members (May 2010) the largest Jewish community in Switzerland . It has a synagogue (Quartier City ), a community center in Quartier Enge , which also houses the ICZ library, and two cemeteries ( Lower Friesenberg and Upper Friesenberg ). The congregation has been under the direction of Rabbi Noam Hertig since January 2017 .

The ICZ was founded by 12 men in 1862 after the legal restrictions on Jews in the Canton of Zurich were lifted. Previously, Jews were only allowed to live in the Surbtal communities of Endingen and Lengnau . In the Federal Constitution of 1848, too, freedom of settlement was only granted to Christian Swiss; it was not until 1866 that this was extended to include the Jewish population.

In the Law on the recognized Jewish communities, which on the new from the Zurich electorate in spring 2005 based Constitution of the Canton of Zurich was adopted, ICZ and who was Jewish liberal community (JLG), a public law granted status, making it the country's churches have been assimilated .

The Israelitische Cultusgemeinde Zurich is a member of the Swiss Association of Israelites (SIG) . The ICZ does not receive any tax money from legal entities. Of the approximately 2500 members of the ICZ, around 70 percent rarely attend church services. Individual minjanim in other parts of the city are affiliated with the ICZ.
