Martin Naef (born November 10, 1970 in Bern ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). He was a member of the National Council from 2011 to 2019 . Since 2014 he has been co-president of the New European Movement Switzerland (nebs).

education and profession

Martin Naef grew up in Dietlikon and went to primary school there. He then went to the business school in Winterthur . After finishing school he was an intern at the daily newspapers Zürcher Unterländer and the Landbote . After the internship, he studied law at the University of Zurich . After graduating, he worked for the youth advocacy office for five years. Most recently he was a youth lawyer in Dietikon. After that he was head of the employee policy department at KV Switzerland for two and a half years . There he was responsible for the collective employment agreements with the two largest Swiss retailers Coop and Migros . Martin Naef is today on the board of the KV Zurich.

politics

In 1991 he joined the Social Democratic Party. His political career began when he was elected to the Constitutional Council of the Canton of Zurich, and he was parliamentary group president of the SP (2000 to 2005). He was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council in 2003 and was a member of the Business Audit Commission and the Commission for Justice and Public Security (KJS). From 2004 to 2008 he was President of the SP Canton Zurich. In the National Council elections in 2011 , he was elected to the National Council and confirmed in office in 2015. In the elections in 2019 he was not re-elected.

Naef and François Cherix have been co-presidents of the New European Movement Switzerland (nebs) since May 2014 ; they succeeded FDP national councilor Christa Markwalder .

Private

Martin Naef has lived in Aussersihl since 1995 . He was chairman of the Zurich AIDS relief organization and chairman of the homosexual working groups in Zurich.
