Jean-Martin Naef

Jean-Martin Naef (born December 19, 1869 in Moscow , † October 2, 1954 in Chambésy ; resident in St. Gallen and Geneva ) was a Swiss politician and businessman .

biography

Naef was born the son of the pastor of the Reformed Church in Moscow, Paul Naef, and Pauline, nee Siegrist. After completing a commercial apprenticeship in Russia , Naef settled in Geneva in 1893 and founded the company Chuit & Naef with Philippe Chuit in 1895 , which produced synthetic fragrances and flavors . The company was in 1910 Naef & Cie , 1934, Firmenich & Cie renamed. In 1926 Naef presided over the Geneva Chamber of Commerce .

Naef was a member of the right-wing extremist Union de défense économique . At the end of 1923 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Geneva and re-elected in 1927. In 1927 he was elected to the municipal council (parliament) of the city of Geneva. From 1927 to 1931 he was Geneva State Councilor and headed the Trade and Industry Department. At the same time, he represented the Canton of Geneva in the Council of States from December 3, 1928 to December 6, 1931 . In 1931 he resigned from his posts allegedly for health reasons, but possibly also out of disappointment with politics.

In addition, Jean-Martin Naef emerged as a patron and supported a. a. the Orchester de la Suisse Romande and the Association of Russian- Swiss .

In 1895 Jean-Martin Naef married Julie Gabrielle Terrisse, the daughter of the engineer Jules Terrisse.
