Barbara Schmid-Federer
Barbara Schmid-Federer (born November 10, 1965 in Zurich ; resident in Ingenbohl and Rorschach ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ) and was a member of the National Council from 2007 to 2018 .
Life
Barbara Schmid-Federer in 1984, the graduation at the High School Canton promenade from Zurich. This was followed from 1985 to 1991 by studying Romance languages (French philology , Spanish literature, comparative literature, basic studies in journalism) at the University of Zurich , the Sorbonne and the University of Granada . After the licentiate in 1991 she completed a language course in the US. From 1991 to 1993 Barbara Schmid-Federer worked as a high school teacher at the Free Gymnasium in Zurich and in Paris. From 1994 to 1997 she was assistant to the President of ETH ZurichBefore she took over the position of Dual Career Advice (Presidential Staff Professorships) at ETH Zurich from 1998 to 2002 and helped appoint foreign professors to the ETH.
Barbara Schmid-Federer was elected to the National Council in the Swiss parliamentary elections on October 21, 2007 and was a member of the Commission for Legal Affairs in her first legislative period. After her first re-election on October 23, 2011, she was a member of the National Council's Judicial Commission GK, and from 2011 to 2018 of the Commission for Social Security and Health SGK. From 2014 to 2018 she was co-president of the parliamentary group on family policy.
Schmid-Federer has been President of the Swiss Red Cross of the Canton of Zurich since November 1, 2011 . She has been a member of the Red Cross Council since 2018 and a member of the Pro Juventute Foundation Board since January 2019 . In June 2019 she was elected Vice President of the Swiss Red Cross. Member of the Pro Mente Sana Board of Trustees since 2018 . She has been working as a partner since 2002 and is a member of the Board of Directors of TopPharm Apotheke Paradeplatz in Zurich; From 2003 to 2018 she was a member of the board of the CVP Women Canton Zurich and CVP Women Switzerland ; since 2008 member of the Board of Directors of Radio Zürisee AG ; from 2009 to 2018 member of the Board of Trustees of the Greina Foundation ; from 2008 to 2010 member of the advisory board for the Swisscleantech trade association , member of the advisory board for sports schools in Engelberg and member of the advisory board for Swiss Police ICT / Swiss Police IT Congress SPIK ; from 2013 to 2018 board member of Alliance F , and from 2014 to 2018 president of the family policy working group of CVP Switzerland.
From 2004 to 2011 she was Vice President Children's Aid Bethlehem ; 2008 to 2011 President of the International Society for Human Rights, ISHR, Section Switzerland ; 2008 to 2012 member of the Presidium of CVP Switzerland; 2008 to 2010 member of the Board of Trustees of the SPO Patient Protection ; 2002 to 2007 President CVP Männedorf and from 2003 to 2008 President of the CVP District Meilen.
After her resignation as national councilor in the 2018 summer session, she was succeeded by Philipp Kutter .
Barbara Schmid-Federer is married, has two sons and lives in Männedorf . Her husband Lorenz Schmid is a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council for the CVP . The abbot of Einsiedeln Abbey Urban Federer OSB is her brother. One of her great-great-grandfathers was Josef Zemp , the first non- liberal Federal Councilor in Switzerland. Through him she is also related to her party and council colleague Ida Glanzmann-Hunkeler , also Zemp's great-great-granddaughter.
Political priorities
Her main interest is family and network politics . In recent times she has advocated the introduction of an “Internet emergency call button”, the introduction of a criminal offense “digital trespassing”, the appointment of a Swiss “bullying and cyberbullying officer” and covert investigations in chat rooms without any suspicion of crime. As a member of the Social Security and Health Commission, her main interest was pension reform.
