Fabian Molina (born July 8, 1990 in Uster ) is a Swiss politician ( SP / Juso ) and member of the National Council .

Political career

Fabian Molina joined the SP in 2006. From 2007 to 2009 he was on the board of the SP Illnau-Effretikon. At the same time, he founded Juso Illnau-Effretikon in 2008 and was vice-president of the student organization at his cantonal school. In 2009 he was elected Co-President of Juso Canton Zurich. In 2011, Molina ran for the Presidium of Juso to succeed Cédric Wermuth . He received 84 of 296 votes. On March 16, 2014, Molina ran again for the Presidium and was elected to succeed David Roth as President of Juso Switzerland . Until January 2015 he was a member of the management of the SP Canton Zurich. In 2010 he was in the council of Illnau-Effretikon chosen where he worked until his retirement in 2016th In 2015 he ran for the National Council on the list of the SP in the canton of Zurich. For the 2015-2019 legislature he was on the first substitute place on the SP list until he moved up in 2018. At the 2016 annual meeting of Juso Switzerland, Fabian Molina announced his resignation as President in June 2016 and expressed the wish for a female successor. In August 2017, he moved to the Zurich Cantonal Council for the Pfäffikon constituency . In March 2018 he moved up as National Councilor after Tim Guldimann surprisingly announced his resignation. In the 2019 parliamentary elections , Molina was able to defend his seat in the National Council with 81,905 votes.

Political profile

Molina was the youth secretary at the Unia union from 2011 to 2014 . He is also a member of Amnesty International , Public Eye , Greenpeace , Group Switzerland Without Armed Forces ( GSoA ) and Solidar Suisse . On August 1, 2014, Switzerland's national holiday, he demanded the hanging of the peace flag as a symbol against nationalism to commemorate the centenary of the mobilization for the First World War. In 2015, the Juso, together with other groups, held a referendum against the new intelligence service law. In the voting on the popular initiative "No speculation with food!" , which was ultimately rejected, he took on a leading role. He has been a research assistant at the Swissaid aid organization since 2017 and co-president since June 6, 2019.

Others

He grew up in Illnau-Effretikon and attended the Büelrain Cantonal School in Winterthur from 2006 to 2010 . After dropping out before graduation, he passed the Matura in 2011 and began studying history and philosophy at the University of Zurich .

His father was a left-wing activist in Chile and fled to Switzerland after 13 prison stays, where he married Molina's mother. Molina has three siblings.
