Cédric Wermuth (born February 19, 1986 in Jegenstorf ; resident in Eggiwil and Ceola di Giovo ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Cédric Wermuth grew up in Bünzen and Boswil , where he attended primary school. He graduated from the district school in Muri and graduated from the canton school in Wohlen in 2005 with a focus on Spanish. He then studied political science, economic and social history and philosophy at the University of Zurich and graduated in March 2015. In addition to his mandate from the National Council, he works as a strategy consultant at the Spinas Civil Voices agency, as a presenter at Radio Kanal K and independently in various areas. The Swiss-Italian citizen is married, has two daughters and lives in Zofingen .

In 2010 he was sentenced to a conditional fine of 20 daily rates and a fine of 300 francs for squatting in the Hotel Verenahof in 2009.

Political career

Wermuth has been a member of the Juso since 1999 . From 2003 to 2005 he was Co-President of the Aargau Juso Cantonal Section and from 2005 to 2007 Central Secretary of Juso Switzerland. From June 7, 2008 he was party president of Juso Switzerland. He was also a member of the board of the SP City of Baden .

Between 2004 and 2008 he represented the SP in the government youth commission of the canton of Aargau.

Wermuth was elected in October 2008 at the party convention of the SP Switzerland in Aarau to succeed Silvia Schenker in the vice-presidency of the SP Switzerland. His election took place with 214 against 168 votes. On August 21, 2011, Wermuth announced his resignation from the Vice-Presidium of the SP Switzerland at the end of November 2011. On March 8, 2009, Wermuth missed the election to the Aargau Grand Council , but was elected to the Baden city council (city parliament) on October 25 of the same year with 1004 votes.

On September 4, 2010, he announced his resignation as party president of Juso Switzerland on March 2011. The Lucerne Cantonal Councilor David Roth was elected as his successor .

In the Swiss parliamentary elections in October 2011 , Wermuth was elected to the National Council with 40,775 votes by those eligible to vote in Aargau . In the elections in autumn 2015 he was confirmed in this office.

From 2014 to 2018, Wermuth was co-president of the SP Aargau together with Grand Councilor Elisabeth Burgener Brogli .

Wermuth ran for the Council of States and again for the National Council in the Swiss parliamentary elections on October 20, 2019 . The fact that Wermuth prevailed over his national council colleague Yvonne Feri in the party nomination for the Council of States was widely received in the media from the point of view of the gender criterion. His election campaign also caused quite a stir, especially since he hired the same agency as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for their successful election campaign to enter the US Congress . In these elections too, Wermuth was confirmed in his office as National Councilor. In the fight for one of the two Aargau seats in the Council of States, he reached third place in the first ballot, a little later he withdrew his candidacy.

In December 2019, Wermuth announced that he was running for the presidium of the SP Switzerland together with Mattea Meyer .

Political profile

Wormwood is assigned to the left wing of social democracy.

He is a member of the Partito Democratico in Italy, the Swiss Transport Club , the VPOD and Unia trade unions and other left-green organizations.
