Thomas Burgherr (born August 1, 1962 in Zofingen ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ) and entrepreneur.

Life and work

After attending primary school in Wiliberg and the district school in Reitnau , Burgherr completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He later made the master's examination as a carpenter. He is the managing director, owner and chairman of the board of directors of Burgherr Moosersäge AG. Burgherr Moosersäge AG is a family company with a long tradition and has been running a timber construction company and timber trade since 1866. She obtains the logs exclusively from the surrounding communities. Burgherr Moosersäge AG is therefore one of the leading providers of wood construction work in the areas of supporting structures, new buildings and conversions, renovations, interior work, insulation and stair construction. Today, the company is managed in the 5th generation by owner Thomas Burgherr and operations manager Thomas Kissling.

Thomas Burgherr is president of the "tunAargau" association. The association, which already exists in some cantons of Switzerland, aims to sensitize children and young people from 6 to 13 years of age to technical and scientific professions. The children and young people are invited to a research laboratory and an adventure workshop as part of an adventure show. The sponsoring association “tunAargau” is a private initiative of industry, trade and commerce and is supported by the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland .

Political career

From 1992 to 2000 he was Vice-Minister in the Wiliberg community. In 1997 he was elected to the parliament of the canton of Aargau ( Grand Council ) and worked there first in the commissions for education, culture and sport (until 2005) and the university of applied sciences (until 2001). Between 2005 and 2009 he was chairman of the business audit committee . From 2009 he was a member of the Commission for Economics and Taxes . From 2012 to 2020 he was President of SVP Aargau, his successor was National Councilor Andreas Glarner . In October 2015 he was elected to the National Council and has been a member of the State Political Commission since then.
