Philipp Johannes Müller (born September 5, 1952 in Mogelsberg ; entitled to live in Neckertal , formerly Mogelsberg) is a Swiss building contractor and politician ( FDP. Liberals ). From 2003 to 2015 he was a member of the National Council , from 2015 to 2019 of the Council of States . He was also party president of the FDP from April 2012 to April 2016, The Liberals.

Life

Müller is a general construction and real estate contractor and since December 1991 owner of the Philipp Müller general contractor, real estate and board member of the Automobile Club of Switzerland (ACS), section Mittelland. After completing his school education, he completed an apprenticeship as a plasterer / plasterer in order to be able to take over the parental plastering business, which he finally converted into a general construction company.

Philipp Müller lives in Reinach AG , has a second marriage and has three daughters from his first marriage.

Political party

Müller was president of the FDP Reinach ( AG ) from 1996 to 2004 . From 2004 he was a member of the management of the FDP Switzerland. There he was head of the department for migration issues as well as an expert on the core topic “Lean and citizen-friendly state”.

As a representative of the FDP Kulm, Philipp Müller was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau from 1997 to 2003 . He was the initiator of the Federal People's Initiative “for a regulation of immigration” (“18 percent initiative”), which wanted to limit the proportion of foreigners in the total Swiss population to 18 percent. The popular initiative was rejected by the Swiss electorate in 2000 with over 63 percent. In the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2003 he was elected to the National Council. In spring 2012 he was elected President of the FDP, Liberal Switzerland, he would like to strengthen it as a liberal people's party. In the 2015 Swiss parliamentary elections , he was elected to the Council of States for the canton of Aargau. In the elections in 2019 he did not join in again.

Müller was a board member of the FDP-Liberal parliamentary group in the Federal Assembly .

Viewpoints

From 2002 to 2008, Müller was president of the “party-independent information committee PIKOM”, a civic association on the subject of foreign policy .

Müller is committed to his industry and wants to achieve better tax conditions for owners and investors of residential buildings, for example by increasing energy efficiency . He is an advocate of a VAT reform .

Motorsport

Müller was also active in motorsport . In 1977, 1978 and 1980 he competed in European Formula 3. He also drove in German Formula 3 in 1980. In 1981, he switched to Swiss Formula 3, where he finished fourth in the overall standings. In 1986 he won the European championship for the Toyota team. In 1987 he competed in the European Touring Car Championship and the World Touring Car Championship. In 1989 he drove in the European Touring Car Championship and finished 23rd overall at the end of the season. In 1989 and 1990 he also started in a Toyota Supra from the Bemani-Motorenbau team in the German Touring Car Championship and in 1989 was 23rd in the overall standings. In 1990 he also drove in the German Porsche Carrera Cup and finished sixth at the end of the season. Even in 1991 (6th place) and 1992 (7th place) he remained loyal to this series. In 1994 he started in the German Super Touring Car Cup. In 1995 he drove in the Swiss Touring Car Championship and was third at the end of the season.
