Thierry Burkart (born August 21, 1975 in Baden AG ; resident in Baden and Mühlau ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and lawyer .

Life

Burkart grew up in Obersiggenthal and now lives in Baden. In the Swiss Army he is a captain in the military justice system. Burkart studied in St. Gallen and Lausanne and was admitted to the bar in 2010. He works as a lawyer in a law firm. Thierry Burkart is a member of various boards of directors and Vice President of the Touring Club Switzerland .

Political career

In 1999 Thierry Burkart was elected President of the Young Freisans Aargau. In 2001 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau , which he chaired in 2014 and of which he was a member until 2015. From 2004 to 2010 he was Vice President and from 2010 to 2013 President of the FDP, the Liberals Aargau. Thierry Burkart was elected to the National Council in the 2015 parliamentary elections with the second-best result on the FDP list . Since then he has been a member of the office of the National Council, the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications (KFV) and the NEAT supervisory delegation. Thierry Burkart has been a member of the board of the FDP, Liberal Switzerland, since March 2018.

On November 29, 2018, the delegates of the FDP Aargau nominated Thierry Burkart for the Council of States election on October 20, 2019 . He prevailed against National Councilor Matthias Jauslin by a large majority . In the first ballot on October 20, 2019, Thierry Burkart took first place ahead of Hansjörg Knecht and Cédric Wermuth , but missed the absolute majority. On November 24th, he was elected to the Council of States in the second ballot with a clear lead over the second-placed Knecht .

Political profile

Thierry Burkart is politicized on the right in the FDP. He describes himself as “consistently bourgeois” and names transport policy as well as economic and structural policy as the political priorities.

Burkart was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Aargau Foundation for Freedom and Responsibility in Politics and Business from 2011 to 2015. In 2008 he became Vice President of Perspective CH, a movement which, according to its own statements, advocates “cosmopolitanism and sovereignty”. Since 2011 he has been President of the Aargau Section of the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) and Vice President of the TCS for the whole of Switzerland. From 2013 to 2016 he was President of Swiss eMobility (Swiss Electric Mobility Association). He campaigned for the faster expansion of the A1 motorway to six lanes and the Aargau East agglomeration program with numerous transport projects. Burkart has brought various initiatives through parliament (including driving right by on motorways and motorways). His motion «More creative freedom when working from home» caused a stir.

In terms of security policy, he advocates a militia army with modern equipment and calls for new combat aircraft for the Swiss Air Force. In terms of energy and climate policy, Burkart speaks out against stricter regulations and against a fee for flight tickets.
