Fulvio Pelli

Fulvio Pelli (born January 26, 1951 in Sorengo ; entitled to live in Pura TI ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP. Liberals ). He was the party's first president from 2009 to 2012 and had previously been the last president of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) , one of the predecessor parties of the FDP , since 2005 . In addition, from 1995 to 2014 he was his party's national councilor for the canton of Ticino .

biography

After visiting the elementary schools and the high school in Lugano Pelli studied at the Universities of Bern and Zurich law . He obtained his licentiate in Zurich in 1974 and received his doctorate three years later under Arthur Meier-Hayoz . In 1977 he was also admitted to the bar and notary . For four years he was Deputy Public Prosecutor of the Sottoceneri . In 1981 he joined his father Ferruccio Pelli's law firm. Today he is the owner of this law firm. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of five companies, including the Tessiner Kantonalbank . He has been a member of the Museum Council of the Swiss National Museum since 2017.

Pelli is married and has three daughters. He lives in Sorengo .

From 1980 to 1990 Fulvio Pelli member was of the municipal council of the city of Lugano. From 1983 to 1995 he was a member of the Ticino Cantonal Council . He resigned from this office when he was elected to the National Council in 1995 . 2002–2005 he chaired the Free Democratic Group in the Federal Assembly . In the federal elections in 2007 he was confirmed in his office with the best result of all candidates in the canton of Ticino, but four years later in the elections on October 23, 2011, he was re-elected by a very narrow 58 votes. In the Federal Council election to succeed Federal Councilor Couchepin , Pelli was proposed by his cantonal party as a Federal Council candidate, but was not officially nominated by his party's parliamentary group. For a long time he himself left it open whether he even wanted to run for office. Pelli resigned from the National Council on March 6, 2014.

Fulvio Pelli is also a member of the New European Movement Switzerland (nebs) , where he was temporarily president of the Ticino regional section.

Party president of the FDP

From March 5, 2005 until the merger with the Liberal Party of Switzerland on January 1, 2009, Pelli was the last president of the Free Democratic Party . From the merger of the two parties to form the FDP. He was their first president (founding president) until 2012. This was already his second presidential office: from 1988 to 2000 he headed the Ticino FDP.
