Rolf Schweiger (born January 9, 1945 in Baar , Canton Zug ) is a Swiss lawyer and politician ( FDP ).

biography

Schweiger at the Zurich University law student and 1970 in the Canton train admitted as a lawyer and notary obtained. Since 1976 he has been a partner at the Schweiger Advokatur / Notariat law firm , which has now grown to twelve lawyers.

As a member of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), his political career began in 1970 when he was elected to the Zug Cantonal Council , to which he was a member initially until 1974 and again from 1976 to 1994. From 1980 to 1994 he presided over the FDP parliamentary group.

Rolf Schweiger has represented the Canton of Zug in the Council of States since 1999 . In April 2004 he briefly took over the presidency of the FDP Switzerland, but had to resign in November due to a burnout . In May 2011, he announced that he would no longer run in the general election in autumn 2011 .

From 2014 to 2018, Schweiger was a member of the board of directors of Crypto AG , a company domiciled in Zug, about which many media reported in connection with the Rubicon secret service operation . Schweiger explained that encryption issues were "not an issue" on the board of directors.

Schweiger is married and has two sons.
