Peter Bieri (born June 21, 1952 in Winterthur ; legal resident in Hünenberg ZG and Romoos ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ). From 1995 to 2015 he was Councilor , in 2007 President .

biography

Bieri studied agronomy at the ETH Zurich , where he worked as an engineer agr. graduated and in 1982 at the Institute for Animal Science as Dr. sc. techn. PhD . From 1982 to 2009 he was a teacher at the cantonal agricultural education and advice center Schluechthof in Cham . He chairs the public transport information service LITRA and has chaired the committee of the Swiss National Library since 2016 .

From 1987 to 1994 he was a local councilor , from 1987 to 1991 he was president of the CVP Hünenberg, from 1995 to 2015 he represented the canton of Zug in the council of states. On December 4, 2006 he was elected President of the Council of States. In his work as a Council of States he presided over the Business Audit Commission 1998/99, the Commission for Science, Education and Culture 2002/03, the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications 2008/09, the EFTA-EU Delegation 1998/99 and the delegation to the interparliamentary one Union 2004/05.

Peter Bieri is married, has four grown children and lives in Hünenberg. He was a major in the Swiss Army until 2003 .
