The Banca dello Stato del Cantone Ticino (short form: BancaStato ; German Tessiner Kantonalbank ) based in Bellinzona is the cantonal bank of the Canton of Ticino . It was founded in 1915 and is organized in the form of a public corporation. The bank has 20 branches and employs around 371 people (full-time equivalents). At the end of 2019, Bancastato had total assets of around 14 billion Swiss francs.
Ownership structure and business priorities
The BancaStato is organized as an institution under public law and belongs 100 percent to the Canton of Ticino. Starting from its historical origins in the mortgage lending business, the bank has continuously expanded its range of services. Today the range includes all the services and products of a universal bank: from granting private and corporate loans to payment transactions and asset management. Since 2010, the state institute has also had its own private banking subsidiary, Axion Swiss Bank . BancaStato's customers include private individuals, investment customers, small and medium-sized companies and public corporations.
Like the vast majority of all cantonal banks, the Ticino institute also has a so-called state guarantee . This means that the canton is liable for the bank's liabilities.
