Headquarters

Provisional headquarters of the Obwaldner Kantonalbank in Sarnen (2017)
Temporary headquarters of Obwaldner Kantonalbank in Rütistrasse

Until October 2012, the bank's headquarters were in Sarnen on the corner of Bahnhofstrasse and Brünigstrasse. Since 2006, OKB has been planning to convert and expand the headquarters with an additional parking garage. This construction project was delayed several times due to objections until the Federal Court in March 2017 revoked the building permit granted by the municipality in 2011. Since then, the bank has been planning a new building in the Sarner Feldquartier, where it had already acquired 8,000 square meters of building land under building rights in November 2015. The cantonal bank therefore sold the property on Bahnhofstrasse in Sarnen at the end of 2018.

For the transition period, the cantonal bank built a temporary wooden element construction on Rütistrasse in Sarnen, which it moved into in October 2012. The provisional space offers 130 workplaces on 3100 square meters of floor space. OKB has invested 5.5 million francs in this. According to the original plan, the bank wanted to remain in the temporary arrangement for four to five years. The move to the planned new building on Bahnhofstrasse was then planned. Coordinates of the temporary: 661.25 thousand  /  193 851

Construction of the new headquarters in the Sarner Quartier Feld started in June 2019. The five-story, square building with a light-flooded atrium is to be named Quadrum . The system construction will be made of concrete and 1,650 m³ of wood. After a construction period of around 2 years, the new building should be ready for occupancy in autumn 2021. The construction will cost 39 million francs.
