Surname

The ending -rieth of the place name Ödkührieth indicates an early development of the place before the 13th century. The places with the place names ending in -reuth, -rieth, -ried, -richt (earlier spelling: -riut, -rivt, -rewt, derived from “clearing”, “clearing”) emerged in connection with the first settlement of the area by clearing the dense forest. Places with such names occur very often in the area of the rivers Pfreimd and Luhe and the adjacent streams. These were the starting point for the settlement of the region.

Some of the settlements created by clearing were later perished again, they became desolate or desolate. The names of these deserted places were then used as field names. When these places were then repopulated again after years or decades, they got their old name but the syllable Öd- was put in front. In this way, the original Kührieth (original spelling: Churiut), which had fallen desolately, later became Ödkührieth during the repopulation.

history

The founding of Ödkührieth, then under the name Churiut, goes back to the first wave of clearing when the region was settled. After an initial settlement, however, the place declined again and fell desolate. In the Ducal Surbarians from 1285 and 1326, Ödkührieth is already referred to as desolate. It is listed in these registers as belonging to Waidhaus. Waidhaus was the seat of a Diepolding ministerial in the middle of the 12th century . When Waidhaus was sold, Ödkührieth also passed from the Diepolding family to the Ortenburgers . In 1272 the Ortenburgers sold Waidhaus and thereby Ödkührieth came into the possession of the Bavarian duke .

In the 18th century Ödkührieth had four properties, three Sölden and a mill. It belonged to the municipality of Waidhaus, to the district of Vohenstrauß. The mentioned mill of Ödkührieth was the Kühmühle , which today (2015) is part of Waidhaus. Only here did Kühmühle appear together with Ödkührieth, otherwise Kühmühle was treated separately and did not share Ödkührieth's fate. So Ödkührieth belonged to the tax district Lohma, the municipality Spielhof and the branch Burkhardsrieth, while Kühmühle belonged politically and ecclesially to Waidhaus.

Ödkührieth was for a directory of 1770 on the territory of Pflegamtes Pleystein and meanwhile high jurisdiction.

In 1808 tax districts were formed. Ödkührieth belonged to the Lohma tax district which, in addition to Lohma itself, also contained the villages of Spielhof and Zengerhof and the wastelands of Hörlmühle, Marxmühle, Ödkührieth, Papiermühle and Trutzhof (also: Trutzhofmühle). The Lohma tax district belonged to the Vohenstrauß regional court.

Markets, rural communities and village communities emerged from the tax districts . In 1821 the hamlet of Ödkührieth and four families belonged to the village of Spielhof. The village of Spielhof itself with 25 families, the hamlet of Ödkührieth with four families and Zengerhof with six families and the deserted Marxmühle with two families, paper mill with two families and Finstermühle with one family belonged to the village community Spielhof.

Spielhof was an independent municipality from 1821 to 1830. In 1830 Spielhof was incorporated into the municipality of Lohma with its parts of the parish of Marxmühle, Ödkührieth, Papiermühle, Zengerhof and Finstermühle.

In 1864 Ödkührieth had 7 buildings and 45 residents. It belonged to the Lohma community. The community Lohma at that time consisted of the community parts Lohma, Finstermühle, Marxmühle, Ödkührieth, paper mill, Premmühle, Schönschleif, Spielhof and Zengerhof.

In 1939, Marxmühle, Ödkührieth and Papiermühle were spun off from the Lohma community and incorporated into the Waidhaus community.
