Grafenau is a district of the Bavarian market Waidhaus in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the administrative district of Upper Palatinate .

Geographical location

Grafenau is located on a cleared island about four kilometers northeast of Waidhaus and 500 meters west of the German-Czech border on the slope of the 553 meter high Rippelberg.

The trout stream flows into the Rehlingbach about 600 meters north of Grafenau . The Rehlingbach flows from north to south along the Czech border about 500 meters east of Grafenau and flows into the Pfreimd at Pfrentschweiher , which is still called Katharinabach there.

history

In 1858 there was a Pocherhaus belonging to the Frankenreuth glassworks in Grafenau . There the quartz sand was crushed and prepared for the glass melting process.

In 1867 Grafenau had five buildings and 13 residents. It belonged to the Waidhaus community. The Waidhaus community at that time included the districts Waidhaus, Birkenlohe, Buchen, Bucher, Forsthaus, Frankenreuth, Grafenau, Hörlmühle, Kühmühle, Oberströbl (= Speckermühle), Pfälzerhof, Reichenau, Richterhaus (= Hermannsbach) and Ziegelhütte.

In 1930 Grafenau was also listed as a town in 1930. It belonged to the municipality of Waidhaus, which from 1939 had the districts of Waidhaus, Birklohe, Forsthaus, Frankenreuth, Grafenau, Hörlmühle, Kühmühle, Marxmühle, Oberströbl (= Speckermühle and Ströbl), Ödkührieth, paper mill, Pfälzerhof, Reichenau and Ziegelhütte.
