Silvia Schenker

Silvia Schenker (born January 17, 1954 in Aarau ; resident in Aarburg and Heimiswil ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Schenker attended schools in Grenchen , Arlesheim and Aesch and completed a commercial apprenticeship at the Swiss Bank Corporation from 1970 to 1972 . From 1977 to 1979 she worked as a commercial clerk at Ciba-Geigy . After completing her secondary school diploma, she studied economics and history for a few semesters at the University of Basel from 1982 to 1985 . From 1989 to 1993 she trained as a social worker at the Higher Technical School for Social Work , from which she graduated with a diploma. She then worked as a social worker at the Felix Platter Hospital in Basel , then from 1995 to 2011 at the University Psychiatric Clinics in Basel . Since May 2011 she has been working as a social worker at the Basel-Stadt Guardianship Authority.

Schenker is divorced, has three children and lives in Basel.

politics

From March 1995 to January 2004, Schenker was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt . From 1997 to 2001 she was President of the VPOD Basel . From 2001 to 2004 she headed the SP parliamentary group in the Grand Council. From 2003 to 2019 she was a national councilor . She was a member of the Commission for Social Security and Health (SGK) and the State Political Commission (SPK).

From September 2006 to October 2008 she was Vice President of SP Switzerland. Since November 2006 she has been President of the Swiss Health League Conference (Geliko).

The core themes of her political work are social policy, family policy, health policy and environmental policy.
