In 2002 she completed the Matura type A at the grammar school Bäumlihof . She then studied law at the University of Basel and graduated in 2011 with a licentiate . In 2004 she became a Swiss citizen , she is a dual Turkish-Swiss citizen .

Along with her brother led Arslan 2006-2007 the Shisha - Bar "Susam" at Barfüsserplatz . From 2012 Arslan worked as a legal advisor at the Basel Trade Union Confederation. From 2013 to 2015 she was a professional assistant at the Office for Assistance and Adult Protection of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. From March 2015 she worked as a lawyer in the general secretariat of the Security Directorate of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft , but left this position in February 2016. politics

Arslan joined BastA in 2004 and was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt from 2005 to 2016 , where she belonged to the parliamentary group of the Green Alliance . From 2007 she took a seat in the Justice, Security and Sports Commission and from 2013 in the Pardon Commission. At the end of 2014, the government councilor and security director Isaac Reber revoked Arslan's agreed position as head of the cantonal penal system after the Basler Zeitung had launched a campaign against her. The newspaper had referred to alleged skills deficiencies and debts amounting to around 60,000 Swiss francs . In reality, there were three debt enforcements that Arslan had already mentioned in the application process. As Swissinfo noted, it was not made clear in the relevant media reports that “only claims, but not actual debts, are recorded in the debt enforcement register”. At the time of Arslan's application, only a remaining debt of 5,000 francs had to be paid, which took place shortly afterwards.

In the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2015 , Arslan was elected to the National Council and confirmed in 2019 . There she is a member of the Foreign Policy Commission, the Legal Affairs Commission and the Judicial Commission.
