It is aimed at pupils in the second class of the e-train at the further education schools in Basel with very good grades. The goal is the preparation and the transition to a third regular class of the high schools in Basel-Stadt and lasts one year. All major subjects are offered. A transitional class is run by default at the GB. If the demand is high, another class, sorted by focus, will be opened at the Kirschgarten Gymnasium .

Music project

Music is very important in the UK. It is offered as a major, elective, supplementary and free elective (various derivatives). A music project is rehearsed and performed every year. It is a musical in-house production and takes place every year in January, usually after the intensive week. The preparations run throughout the first semester. In terms of content, this is under a selected chapter, such as B. Swiss music (musikusdrschwz) or Afro-American music (black music). All students who have chosen music in any form, as well as external parties and teachers, are involved. This spectacle is regional such as B. reported by the Riehener Zeitung .

GB plus

The GB Plus is an educational project with the aim of promoting individual learning. In 2010, the responsible education council granted approval for five cohorts. In contrast to the usual teaching models, the lessons only consist of approx. 75% frontal teaching and 25% individual learning time (abbreviated as INL), in which the students can put together their own teaching content. A six to seven week learning block ("phases") is followed by an examination week ("examination phase") in which what has been independently learned is tested. Third-grade OS students are accepted with a recommendation to transfer to the grammar school. At the end of 2013, the grammar school was awarded a new Swiss school prize (similar to its German and Austrian counterparts) by the Swiss Education Forum as the second best school and the best grammar school in Switzerland . GB Plus is not the only reason for the award, but a unique selling point of the school. This was reported nationwide.

Others

  • In 2011 a renovation project of the GB / WBS was determined. From a presentation of various projects and companies, the idea of the office of Enzmann Fischer Partner AG Architects BSA / SIA with the overall manager Bossard und Partner prevailed. At the beginning of 2014, the project was presented to the Grand Council for construction financing. The construction work should be implemented in 2014-2018.
  • At the UK there has been a student organization since 1995 consisting of two delegates from each class and a board of directors made up of two delegates from each school level. The aim of this SO is to represent the interests of the GB student body before the school bodies and to promote a school culture. Occasionally they organize activities at the school such as B. the Röselitag or a student tutoring and ensure the operation of the school's internal app.
  • With gb.info , the Bäumlihof high school is the first high school in Switzerland to have a large campus app for smartphones . It informs the pupils and teachers about school-relevant processes such as lost hours, quits, cafeteria meals, etc. This app was initially designed and implemented as a high school diploma thesis , later extensively redesigned and implemented by the student organization.
  • The UK has some beehives from which the so-called "tree honey" is obtained. This product can be obtained from the school's secretariat . In addition, the GB is the only grammar school in Basel that keeps greenhouses and the associated bees. The whole tree honey project has been going on for over 25 years.
  • The GB and the adjacent WBS Bäumlihof are catered for by an in-house cafeteria . It is operated by the SV Group .
