Matura thesis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Matura thesis (sometimes also referred to as the Matura thesis ) is a required component in order to obtain a cantonal or federal Matura in Switzerland . This in turn entitles you to study at a Swiss university .

According to Article 10 of the Ordinance on the Recognition of High School Matura Certificates (Matura Recognition Regulations, MAR), "Pupils alone or in a group must prepare and orally present a large, independent piece of written or written commentary."

This thesis can be freely chosen within the scope of the range of subjects offered by the middle school , must in principle be written in a language taught at the school and is usually written in the last, sometimes the penultimate year before the Matura exams. On the one hand, the work itself and the presentation of the work to an audience are assessed. The work is generally graded from 1–6, with 1 being the lowest and 6 the highest. The Matura thesis counts as a Matura subject and the grade is taken into account accordingly in the Matura certificate.

Acceptance of the work by the school is partly a requirement for admission to the Matura examination; Acceptance of the thesis is not to be equated with a satisfactory grade (i.e. an unsatisfactory thesis can also be accepted). If the grade is unsatisfactory, the students are given the opportunity to revise their work. In extreme cases, the last class has to be repeated and a new paper has to be written.
