Hans-Joachim Kracht

Hans-Joachim Kracht (born September 15, 1940 in Cologne ) is a German historian , theologian and journalist.

Life

Hans-Joachim Kracht graduated from the Apostle High School in Cologne in 1961 . He then studied theology , history , German , pedagogy, philosophy and journalism in Bonn, Cologne, Rome and Münster. Since 1967 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Rhineland Cologne. He later became a member of the KAV Capitolina Rome .

From 1967 to 1969 he was assistant to Professor Eduard Hegel . 1969–1973 he led the training of development workers and supervised development aid projects . In 1971 he was promoted to Dr. theol. doctorate and worked as a research assistant at the University of Cologne (1973–1977). At the request of Joseph Cardinal Höffner , Kracht took over the office of archivist at the Historical Archives of the Archdiocese of Cologne to continue the case of Adolph Kolping in Rome (beatification: October 27, 1991).

Then he went to the newspaper Osservatore Romano as editor-in-chief of the weekly edition in German. In 1998 he was appointed Consultor of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Città del Vaticano, and in 2001 he retired as Editor-in-Chief of the Osservatore.

In 2005 he was reappointed a consultor. He was involved in the cases Anna Maria Tauscher van den Bosch (1855-1938) , founder of the Carmelites of the Divine Heart of Jesus (DCJ) (beatification: May 13, 2006) and Rosa Flesch (1826-1906), the founder of the order of Franciscan Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Angels (Walbreitbach Franciscan Sisters) [Beatification: May 4, 2008].

Kracht published works on the history of the workers' movement in the Rhineland and on Adolph Kolping . He was the editor and editor of the Cologne list of saints and relics by Jakob Torsy. His big name day calendar , which appeared in 2002, he revised. He also published journal articles and newspaper articles. Most recently he published a Lexicon of Cardinals 1058-2010 in eight volumes.
