Mattea Julia Meyer (born November 9, 1987 in Basel ; resident in Villmergen and Opfikon ) is a Swiss geographer and politician of the Social Democrats .

Life

Mattea Meyer studied history, geography and political science at the University of Zurich between 2007 and 2015 . From 2009 to 2013 she was Vice-President of the Young Socialists Switzerland . From 2011 to 2015 she was a Cantonal Councilor in the Canton of Zurich for the constituency XIV Winterthur Stadt. In the Cantonal Council, she was a member of the Commission for Education and Culture from 2011 to 2013, then a member of the Commission for Economics and Taxes. In 2015 she was re-elected in her constituency with the best result of her party.

In April 2015, the cantonal party put her on place 4 of the 34-person list for the 2015 National Council elections ; the NZZ referred to her as the “new super talent” of the SP. On October 18, 2015, she was elected to the National Council at the first attempt and resigned as a cantonal councilor.

In the 50th legislative period she is a member of the Finance Commission and the Immunity Commission of the National Council. She was Vice-President of the Immunity Commission from December 10, 2015 to November 26, 2017, after which Meyer took over the presidency.

In the 2019 parliamentary elections , Meyer managed to be re-elected as National Councilor.

In December 2019 Meyer announced that he would run for the presidium of the SP Switzerland together with Cédric Wermuth .
