Meret Schneider

Meret Schneider (born August 22, 1992 in Uster ) is a Swiss politician ( Greens ).

Life

Meret Schneider grew up in the Zurich Oberland and studied linguistics , environmental sciences and journalism . After completing her studies, she worked for the Sentience Politics association as a project manager for various community initiatives on sustainable nutrition. Schneider is currently co-managing director of Sentience Politics and represents in particular the factory farming initiative , which in 2019 has been filed with the Federal Chancellery.

In the run-up to the Basel Meatless Initiative 2018, co-initiator Schneider criticized the animal rights activist and president and managing director of the Verein gegen Tierfabriken (VgT) Erwin Kessler on social media. It was about anti-Semitism and racism allegations. Kessler sued Schneider for personal injury and defamation, Schneider was convicted and had to pay the court and legal fees.

The animal rights activist, food waste activist, climate protector and vegan Schneider lives in Uster.

Meret Schneider was a member of the municipal council (legislative) of Uster from 2014 to 2019 , where she represented the Greens in the audit commission and the commission for planning and construction. In 2019 she was elected to the Cantonal Council of the Canton of Zurich , where she became a member of the Education and Health Supervisory Commission. After her election to the National Council in autumn 2019 , she resigned from the Cantonal Council.

Meret Schneider is a board member of the Green District of Uster and a board member of the GrünstattUster association .
