Claudio Zanetti (born June 16, 1967 in Bülach ; resident in Poschiavo and Lucerne ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ). He was a member of the National Council from 2015 to 2019 .

Life and professional career

Zanetti went to high school in the Benedictine monastery in Engelberg . He later wrote for the Swiss academic and student newspaper SSZ . He studied law and graduated with a licentiate ( lic. Iur. ). He had his first professional activity as a PR consultant in a Zurich communications agency. In 1999 he became managing director of SVP Kanton Zurich and headed it until 2007. Today he is again active in other PR areas.

Zanetti is married and lives in Gossau (ZH) . He is an active twitterer . His statements on Twitter have repeatedly brought him into criticism.

Political career

Zanetti's political career began when he joined the Young Liberal Party Küsnacht (JLK) in 1988. He was a member of the FDP Küsnacht for five years and then switched to the Swiss People's Party. From 2003 to 2015 he was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council . He was elected to the National Council in the Swiss parliamentary elections in October 2015 . There he took a seat in the Commission for Legal Affairs. He is a member of the SVP Zurich Cantonal Board and a member of the Switzerland-Israel Society . In May 2016 he lost the election as President of SVP Canton Zurich to Cantonal Councilor Konrad Langhart . In the 2019 National Council elections , Zanetti was not re-elected.

Zanetti deviates from the SVP line on some points of view. He advocates cannabis legalization and the opening of marriage to same-sex couples . In his opinion, these are based on a libertarian attitude .

In line with many SVP politicians , he denies man-made climate change . He calls the "climate theory" a lie that was developed by the left to "control people's lives". He considers this to be “a form of terror”. In addition, the sea level cannot rise due to melting ice . In the WOZ Zanetti is referred to as “probably the loudest SVP climate denier”; he also attracts attention on Twitter “again and again with climate conspiracies”.
