The Lituanistik (more rarely Lithuanistik ; lat. Lituanus 'Lithuanians', 'Lithuanian') is a field of modern European philology , which deals with the Lithuanian language and the history , culture and mythology of the Lithuanian people concerned. This lives in Lithuania . From a philological and cultural-scientific point of view, the Lithuanian people also include Žemaiten , and from a historical point of view also the Prussian Lithuanians .

The beginnings of liturgy also lie in Prussia and Germany. The first Lithuanian seminars originated in Königsberg (1718–1945) and Halle (1727–1740).

Teaching and Research

In 1939 the Lithuanian Institute was established in Lithuania. Since 1945, Lituanistik has been taught at the VPU's Faculty of Linguistics . In Vilnius there is the Lietuvių kalbos institutas research institute . There is a literary studies reading room in the Vilnius University Library .
