The Büelrain Cantonal School in Winterthur (KBW) is a public secondary school (Gymnasium) in the Canton of Zurich . It is located in the center of Winterthur , in the Heiligberg district . Around 700 students attend the KBW's short grammar school with a business and law profile, the commercial secondary school (HMS) or the computer science secondary school (IMS).

Profiles

Short grammar school

The short high school with a business and law profile (Wirtschaftsgymnasium) lasts four years and follows on from the second or third secondary school. In the grammar school with the business and law profile, the pupils acquire the grammar school Matura.

The high school Matura allows access to all fields of study at all universities (Swiss universities, ETHZ and EPFL) , but also direct entry into the training programs of the private sector.

In addition to German, French and English, the business and law profile includes a broad, practice-oriented general education in economic and legal areas. Business and Law offers a deeper understanding of the interrelationships in business, law, politics and society. As in all Matura profiles, there are also the subjects of mathematics, biology, physics and chemistry as well as history and geography. A wide range of supplementary and optional subjects enables individual design and deepening of the training.

The Büelrain Cantonal School also offers the possibility of completing the immersion class with a bilingual Matura in English and German, which means that in selected subjects, teaching is no longer in the native German, but in English.

Commercial secondary school (HMS)

The commercial secondary school consists of a three-year school education and a one-year internship in a company. Entry is possible from the second or third secondary school.

The focus of the school education is on the imparting of a basic broad general education with a focus on business subjects, computer science and the modern languages German, French, English and Italian or Spanish.

The training course concludes with a federal diploma in business administration and the commercial vocational baccalaureate . The aim of this training is professional qualification and not academic maturity. At the same time, the vocational baccalaureate enables access to universities of applied sciences .

Computer Science Middle School (IMS)

The IT middle school consists of a three-year school education and a one-year internship in an IT company. Entry is possible from the third secondary school.

Similar to the HMS, the focus of the school education is on imparting a broad, basic general education with a focus on business subjects as well as in the modern languages German, French and English. A large proportion of the training (around a quarter) is devoted to computer science, especially programming.

The IMS thus leads in four years to the vocational baccalaureate with a focus on economics and the federal certificate of proficiency in application development. The aim of this training is professional qualification and not academic maturity. At the same time, the vocational baccalaureate enables access to universities of applied sciences.
