The Cantonal Matura School for Adults ( KME ) in Zurich , Switzerland , is a public educational institution for the second educational path , in which adults who are already involved in the professional world can acquire a federally recognized Matura certificate and thus have direct access to the universities . The training is more compact and is geared to the specific needs of adults; Otherwise, however, the same concepts and regulations apply in the KME as in conventional Zurich canton schools . The training takes place during the day as face-to-face lessons in classes. The KME offers the profiles or main subjects Latin , modern languages ( Spanish and Italian ), biology and chemistry , economics and law, as well as music and instruments. The final exams are carried out directly at the school (house Matura).
The KME has existed since 1970 and has been located in Zurich's Seefeld district in the former Riesbach cantonal school since 2005 . Together with the cantonal school for vocational training EB Zurich , it forms the education center for adults (BiZE) there .
education
The KME offers several training courses: The all-day school usually lasts six semesters (three school years). In addition, the half-day school (duration: seven semesters plus preliminary course) is an extra-occupational training course. In addition, a so-called lateral entry into the third semester is possible for high-performing pupils and for graduates of a vocational school or a diploma or technical school . Since 2005, a so-called passerelle , a one-year training course for graduates with a professional baccalaureate, has also been offered.
The general admission requirements are knowledge of three years of secondary school in the canton of Zurich and, in addition, a completed apprenticeship or three years of regular employment. The minimum age for admission candidates is 19 years.
Financing - Scholarship Fund
As a public institution, the KME does not charge students from the Canton of Zurich or some other cantons any school fees. To help finance the livelihoods of the students, a special scholarship fund was set up for acute emergencies .
history
The school was founded in 1970 by decision of the Zurich Cantonal Council . It was the first and to this day only public secondary school for secondary education in the canton of Zurich . In 1998 she introduced the new Matura recognition regulations (MAR) and with it the new focus subjects. Until 2005, the KME was located in the Schanzenberg school building in Zurich's university district , in the immediate vicinity of the university and ETH . Due to restructuring in the Zurich school system, the Schanzenberg school building was handed over to the University of Education in summer 2005 and the KME moved to the newly opened adult education center in Zurich- Riesbach . The former building of the Riesbach Cantonal School (today: Zurich-Birch ) was converted beforehand.
