education
classes
The lessons consist of the basic, main and supplementary subjects as well as a high school diploma thesis at the end of the training. The training takes place in face-to-face classes (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and to a large extent through self-study. The main subjects Latin , languages ( Spanish , Italian or French ), physics and applications of mathematics or economics and law can be taken at the AME . History , geography , biology and chemistry are available as supplementary subjects .
graduation
The graduation takes place after seven semesters as a house Matura and leads to a federally recognized Matura certificate. In addition, under certain conditions (e.g. professional baccalaureate), there is the option of completing the baccalaureate within a year as part of a passerelle course.
costs
Students who have lived in the canton of Aargau for at least two years pay a school fee of CHF 1,000 per semester. Outside cantons pay CHF 3,000 per semester, provided that their canton of residence is not part of the Northwestern Switzerland School Agreement ( BS , BL , BE , LU and SO ).
history
The establishment had its origins in a postulate of the Grand Councilor Armin Gretler on September 11, 1984 . The context of the postulate was a relatively low maturity rate in numerous Swiss cantons. This quota should be increased through a new, part-time training course that is affordable for less well-off students.
At the beginning of 1990 the Grand Council instructed the government council to open the school during the current legislature (1989–1993). After a short planning period, during which the commissioners were also advised by the existing Matura schools in St. Gallen (ISME) and Lucerne (MSE) , the school opened on February 15, 1992 . 250 people had previously registered their interest, of which more than 100 started the Matura school in 1992.
Sign language interpreters have been working at the AME since February 2010 . The initiative to enable deaf and hearing impaired people to obtain a Matura diploma in Aarau goes back to a request from the Swiss Association of the Deaf in 2007 .
Former
The Association of Former Students of the AME (VESAME) was founded at the first graduation ceremony and is still in existence today.
