The Thurgauisch-Schaffhausen Matura School for Adults ( TSME ) based in Frauenfeld is an independent institution under public law. It leads adults on the second educational path to the high school Matura . As a state high school maturity school for adults , it is supported by the cantons of Thurgau and Schaffhausen .

history

Like the ISME (Interstate Maturity School for Adults), TSME emerged in 1994 from the former Eastern Swiss Maturity School for adults. Frauenfeld, today's headquarters of TSME, has been the location of the Eastern Swiss Matura School since spring 1972, which had existed for one year since 1971.

Sponsorship

The TSME is supported by the cantons of Thurgau and Schaffhausen . It is therefore a state school. An intercantonal agreement between Thurgau and Schaffhausen regulates the details.

Training and admission requirements

The training lasts seven semesters and leads to the federally recognized high school Matura. This guarantees general university access to the universities, the ETH Zurich and the universities of teacher education. Lessons take place every Wednesday evening and Saturday (all day).

Those who want to be admitted to the TSME must have at least a secondary degree and two years of regular employment. The rectorate decides on exceptions.

All applicants must take part in an obligatory admission interview, on the basis of which a decision is made about admission.

The TSME is a grammar school training facility for adult residents of the cantons of Thurgau and Schaffhausen, but it is also open to students from outside the canton.

Core subjects

The TSME offers the following major subjects in the typeless Matura:

  • Latin
  • Italian
  • Physics and Applications of Mathematics
  • biology and chemistry
  • economic and legal

Supplementary subjects

The TSME offers the following additional subjects:

  • physics
  • Applications of Mathematics
  • history
  • chemistry
  • biology

House Matura

The TSME has the right to the house Matura and thus conducts the Matura exams itself. The Matura certificate is federally recognized.

Statistical information for students and graduates

On average, about 140 students attend TSME. The number of pupils has stagnated for years, whereas before they had increased more and more. This has to do with the fact that the vocational baccalaureate today means that a degree at university level ( technical college ) is also possible without a high school diploma. For Thurgauers and Schaffhauseners who are aiming for a university degree, there is no way around the TSME (see passerelle).

In a Swiss-wide comparison, the TSME has a high success rate in the Matura exams. This is due on the one hand to the fact that many students at the school do not get their doctorate in the next semester even before the Matura exams due to the comparatively strict rules, and on the other hand to the fact that the students are in catch-up training and are therefore aware that their success depends on theirs Commitment and its performance is dependent.

50–70% of TSME high school graduates begin university studies after graduation.

Former TSME association

Some of the graduates have joined the Association of Alumni and Friends of TSME . It is basically open to all former high school graduates of the TSME grammar school course, all teachers and friends of the school and has the following goals:

  • to lend spiritual, moral and material support to the maturity school for adults,
  • to maintain the relationships between the Matura school, its former students and other school friends,
  • to promote the recognition of the second education path in the population.

Passerelle

The TSME has also been commissioned by the sponsoring cantons with the further training of professional high school graduates and with the acceptance of the passerelle exams. The passerelle entitles professional high school graduates to take up a university course, even if they do not have the high school diploma.
