The Kantonsschule Kreuzlingen is a Swiss grammar school in the Thurgau city of Kreuzlingen .

Around 300 students attend the school and are taught by around 50 teachers. In addition to the regular classes, since 2004 there has been one class per year at the Kreuzlingen Cantonal School that completes its Matura bilingual in English and German , the so-called English class or immersion class . From the fall semester of 2014, a MINT class will be held in which the pupils experience in-depth lessons in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology . The students in the MINT class acquire the same Matura as those in the other classes. All students are taught basic subjects (e.g. languages, math). By choosing major subjects (such as languages, mathematics, natural sciences), supplementary subjects (e.g. humanities) and free courses (choir, instrumental lessons, big band, theater, sports, English Advanced, Latin, Spanish, Italian, Russian, etc.) the students largely determine their subject combinations themselves.

history

In 1956 an action committee was founded with the aim of providing more educational opportunities in the canton of Thurgau. In June 1961, a second canton school, located in Kreuzlingen, was promoted for the first time. In addition to Kreuzlingen, Romanshorn also applied for the location. The government council ordered an expert opinion from the Institute of Sociology at the University of Bern for the construction of a second canton school in the canton of Thurgau. The Romanshorn location was favored from Bern because the potential number of pupils there was estimated. Romanshorn was forced by the government. In 1966 the proposal to build two smaller canton schools came for the first time. In order to create a financial incentive, the transfer to the canton school from the 2nd grade of secondary school was presented. In 1968 the Grand Council accepted the proposal of the Cantonal Council commission. A project for a cantonal school in Romanshorn was presented to the people, and if accepted, the school would not open until 1973 at the earliest. A school in Kreuzlingen would only be considered in 20 to 30 years. Thus the board of the association was forced to found an independent regional high school in Kreuzlingen. The municipality and city council supported the project. After the new wording in the Cantonal School Act and the approval of the Grand Council, the only thing that stood in the way of the project was the referendum. This was clearly adopted on September 19, 1968. The school was founded in 1969 together with the canton school Romanshorn as canton schools on the lake . Since 1985 the two canton schools have been administratively run separately. The canton school is in the immediate vicinity of the Pedagogical Matura School in Kreuzlingen and the Pedagogical University of Thurgau and forms with these the "Campus Bildung Kreuzlingen".

Infrastructure

The school has a comprehensive infrastructure. The school is spread over three buildings. In the old building (building A), which was built in 1882, there are the usual classrooms and a studio for artistic design. A comprehensive renovation of this building was carried out in 2001/2002. The second house (building B), a multifunctional building, was built in 1972. There are lounges for teachers and students, work rooms for teachers, school management and administration, cafeteria and a cafeteria. The building was renovated in 2000/2001. The third building (Building C) was completed in 2000. In addition to normal classrooms, it has laboratories and music rooms. The school also has an outside classroom that can be used on warm days.

MINT class

The canton school is the only canton school in the canton of Thurgau that offers a so-called MINT class with a focus on mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. This class has existed since 2014. This class train is also particularly suitable for students with a strong interest in technology and natural sciences and computer science. In the MINT class, computer science is taught as a basic subject in a large number of hours. Laboratory classes in chemistry and physics take place in the laboratories of the University of Konstanz, each under the direction of a teacher from the cantonal school.
