The school was founded in 1969 with the Kreuzlingen canton school as canton schools on the lake . In 1972 the first students obtained their Matura. After the schooling was extended from three to four years, the Matura was recognized federally. Also in 1972 the first loan application for a new school building was discarded, the second in 1982, which meant that the pupils and teachers of the Romanshorn canton school had to make do with classrooms in barracks. In 1988 the new building, the building loan of which the people only approved in 1984, could be moved into. At the same time, the canton schools on the lake were administratively separated. Further classrooms were built up to 2005 in order to cope with the growing number of students. Also in 2005 the diploma middle school opened in 1988 was converted into a technical middle school. The latter prepares for training at universities of teacher education and technical colleges. From then on, Romanshorn also became the test location for the Spanish language diplomas DELE / SIELE . In 2006, the first class of the bilingual Matura German-English course began. Since 2015, the Romanshorn Cantonal School has also been entitled to offer the bilingual Matura types German - French and German - Italian. Also since 2015, the Matura Talenta, a talent promotion profile for specially gifted young people in the sporting, musical or intellectual field, has existed. In spring 2019, the Matura Talenta was supplemented with a special IT support offer. In autumn 2019 the 50th school anniversary took place with the inauguration of the renovated sports hall.
