Justus Claus

Justus Claus (born June 9, 1922 in Taura near Burgstädt , † April 28, 2004 in Leipzig ) was a German doctor and former politician and functionary of the GDR bloc party LDPD . He was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR and a longstanding member of the LDPD's central executive committee.

Life

Claus, the son of a teacher, attended elementary and high school and passed the secondary school diploma in 1940. He became a member of the NSDAP in 1940 and was drafted into military service. Claus was taken prisoner of war .

After the war he was a new teacher and headmaster in 1945/46. In 1946 he started studying medicine. He later received his doctorate. med. In May 1946 he joined the LDPD, was a member of the Rochlitz district assembly from 1946 to 1950 , of the Saxon state assembly from 1950 to 1952 and of the Leipzig district assembly from 1952 to 1954 . In 1954 Claus became a ward doctor and in 1956 deputy district and youth doctor in Leipzig-Land . From 1954 to 1958 he was a member of the People's Chamber and a member of the Health Care Committee. In 1960 he responded to a call for solidarity medical aid in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . From 1963 to 1981 he was again a member of the Leipzig District Assembly. Claus worked as a district doctor, i.e. as head of the medical administration for the entire district, and was a member of the Leipzig District Council . He was then a university lecturer and dean at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , was appointed associate professor in 1974 and became director of the university's medicine department.

Claus was a long-time member of the central board of the LDPD.
