PHTG building

The Thurgau University of Education (PHTG) in Kreuzlingen is a training and further education facility for teachers and experts in the field of early childhood. In 2003, teacher training in Kreuzlingen was transferred from traditional seminar training to a modular structure at university level. Since then, the PHTG has taken on the training of teachers at the pre-school level (kindergarten) and primary level. In autumn 2007, the upper secondary level was added to the offer, and since 2009 the secondary level I course has also been offered. The early childhood master’s course has existed since 2011.

Cooperations

The PHTG is the only university of education in Switzerland that has developed a close partnership with a university in the EU - the immediate vicinity makes cooperation with the University of Konstanz possible. The cooperation includes u. a. three cross-border courses (secondary level I, secondary level II, master's in early childhood), bridging professorships and, since 2016, the jointly run “Binational School of Education”. The PHTG is also a member of the International Lake Constance University (IBH).

education

The PHTG offers the following courses with Swiss recognition:

  • Pre-school level course
  • Primary level course

  • Professional introduction
  • Courses
  • courses
  • Tailor-made in-school offers

research

The research on the PHTG contributes to the scientific clarification of issues and problems around school and education and will take place in seven areas:

  • Educational research
  • Didactic and educational research for lecturers
  • Bridging chair for empirical educational research
  • Bridging Chair for Development and Education in Early Childhood
  • Bridging chair for MINT didactics
  • Professorship of Mathematics Didactics
  • Research Center for Media Education

Services

The PHTG houses the second largest library in the Canton of Thurgau . In its media and didactics center, it offers a wide range of services for teachers and school administrators of all school levels as well as for students.

Location and infrastructure

After the first few years in provisional leases, PHTG was able to move into two new buildings designed by the architect Beat Consoni in autumn 2008 . Together with the Pedagogical Maturity School (PMS) in the east, which prepares for social and artistic professions, and the (new) linguistic and scientific-oriented Kantonsschule Kreuzlingen (KSK) in the west, the PHTG in Kreuzlingen now forms the "Campus Bildung Kreuzlingen". The three institutions are networked and share various infrastructure offers. There are special agreements for transferring from PMS to PHTG (Thurgauer Weg der Lehrerbildung).
