The University of Education Schwyz (PHSZ) is an independent university of education based in Goldau in the canton of Schwyz . It emerged on August 1, 2013 from the former Schwyz secondary school of the Central Switzerland University of Education , as the university sponsorship was transferred from the PHZ concordat of the six central Swiss cantons to the canton of Schwyz at that time .

The offer includes:

  • the training of teachers for kindergarten and primary lower level (school years −2 to +2)
  • the training of teachers for the primary level (school years +1 to +6); including reduced training for people with a teaching diploma (e.g. kindergarten teachers)
  • Joint Degree Master’s course in Media Didactics and Computer Science together with the Lucerne University of Education , the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and the University of Zurich
  • Further training offers and additional training for teachers
  • Research and development: Institute for Media and School (IMS), Institute for Professional Research and Personnel Development (IPP), Institute for Teaching Research and Subject Didactics (IUF)
  • Services: media center, specialist offices and consultations, conferences and events

Focus on "Learning with digital media"

The university has a special training and research focus in the area of ​​learning with digital media.

In the training, the College of Education Schwyz offers as a special feature a flexible study with reduced presence in, either in three years (100% of the modules) or as a part-time study in six years to EDK -anerkannten teaching diploma for primary schools and an internationally recognized Bachelor leads . This offer is aimed at people who want to combine studying with work or family. In addition to mandatory face-to-face blocks, it relies heavily on blended learning events.

In its research, the Institute for Media and School (IMS) deals with the use of digital media in schools. In addition to empirical studies, web offers (iLearnIT) that can be used by schools are also being developed. The iPhone project at the Goldau project school attracted international interest beyond the research community, where 1: 1 equipment with smartphones was tested in a primary school for the first time in Europe .
